Sue Cock

Sue Cock was educated in Zimbabwe and at UCT where she obtained her BMus degree Cum Laude. She worked for a short spell at the SABC as a music producer, but then started her path in music education, a path she has pursued with passion and enthusiasm for many years. Her teaching career spanned both junior and senior music education and her final teaching post was at St Mary’s School in Waverley where she was Director of Music.

As a musician in a school environment, Sue was passionate about instilling the love of music into every child that she came in contact with. She conducted school choirs and orchestras; produced many of the big musical events for the school, including Make a Note of It, a large outdoor concert with school choirs and a professional orchestra.

Outside of the school environment, Sue was the Assistant Director for the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg until she began her own chamber choir inVerse, a group of young adults. This choir sang to great critical acclaim, including performances in the Spiritfest in the Grahamstown Cathedral in 2008. She has also conducted massed choir events – the St Stithians Choir Festival in Johannesburg, and the Makaranga Festival in Durban.

Sue is passionate about allowing people to participate in music making to the best of their ability and is continually trying to find platforms for amateur musicians (old and young) to perform. She runs a series of Music Quizzes which are used in churches and schools as community building and in business as team building. Sue works at Classicfm where she was originally employed to broadcast a year’s course of music appreciation programmes called Classical Music 101. She is currently Music Manager at the station. She is also organist and worship leader at St Luke’s church.
